Gonpachi

Gonpachi is a great spot for lunch (sit upstairs with a view of the river), but note that it will get VERY busy around lunch with big tour groups, so the sooner you get there the better. They had some great lunch special options for those that wanted to try a little bit of everything. Otherwise they had some great tempura rice platter that were sizable but not too big for lunch. Feel free to also order à la carte and order some grilled skewers which they’re known for. We had two groups of 20 people come in at once so the service was incredibly slow but otherwise it was a lovely meal.

Right around the corner from our hotel, Gonpachi is a wonderful yakitori restaurant that we couldn't get enough of. We have now been here twice in a week! From the tuna & shark cartilage in sour plum sauce to the yakitori sticks and grilled black cod, we savoured every bite amidst a vibrant atmosphere and to the sounds of the lively staff members greeting guests. The handmade soba is delicious too! We enjoyed sitting at the bar chatting with Mindaka, who walked us to the door at the end of the evening. The second time we were here, Yuuka was very attentive and provided friendly service, which we appreciated very much. Highly recommend!

10 out of 10 experience! Kenji was the best waiter! It was my first time to try many of the Japanese dishes and he guided me the entire way. He was so kind and patient with me. Food was excellent and the Sangria was top notch! I definitely recommend this place, especially for Americans trying authentic Japanese food for the first time.

Nice place to have some local style vegetarian food. Ask for the vegetarian menu... We tried the tempura + rice (comes with meso soup), a spicy noodle bowl and sticky rice + mushrooms. The taste was very good and the food, filling... The place is cashless and takes only credit cards.

loved my solo dinner here! they have a veggie / vegan menu with so many options- i would have loved to see photos on the menu or have clear descriptions so i knew what to expect of the dishes but i was happy with what i ordered- the gonpachi tendons (tempura rice bowl) was delicious/my favourite part of the meal & the sushi was different & delish too (I got yam + avocado). It’s a very cool vibe, upmarket and amazing to see them cooking in front of you etc! thank you to kenji who served me & was very helpful :)) i think you have to reserve before & it would be a gorgeous place for a date night - solo or with someone special !

Everything we ordered was top notch. The shrimp tempura was perfection, 10/10, exactly how tempura should be made. The soba noodles were freshly made and so delicious (not normally a soba noodles person). The karage chicken was the best we’ve had our entire trip. We ordered a lot of different dishes and really all of them were just great. Highly recommend.

Best food that I ever had during japan trip. So delicious, the tempura was so fresh with soba and sauce in the rice bowl also the best (the taste accepted by Indonesian). Get lucky best spot for take photo in the second floor. Need to have reservation before go this restaurant. Must visit when go to Asakusa!
